Children in Need

Children in 5/6B have been creating computer games using 2DIY. Children plan on making and selling a CD containing their games to raise money for Children in Need. Here are a some examples by Nenah, Balraj and Jeremiah.

Were just passing by.....

This week in Literacy we have been looking at poetry. We used the latest McDonald's advert as the basis for our poems. The poem is about all the different people who "pass by" a McDonalds restaurant. We analysed the poem and identified some of the techniques the poet had used to make the poem interesting. We then had a go at writing our own poems in a similar style. Here is Jayden's effort about a football match.

At the Game

Now the cheering types
and the fearing types
and the like to wear an earring types
were just passing by

And the cheering fans
with coke cans
who came to the game with their cheeky nans
were just passing by

And the playing guys
with shifty eyes
who try to win penalties by taking dives
were just passing by

The manager who is feared
and the coach with a long beard
and the substitutes who cheered
were just passing by

And the goalie who saved the ball
who is really tall
and the ball boys who are really small
were just passing by

And the referee
who drank his tea
at quarter to three
with a bad knee
who just wanted to go home and sit on his settee
was just passing by
There's a game for everyone

Here is Frankie's effort about the town centre.

Town

Now the funky types
the chunky types
and the pink headed punky types
were just passing by

The hip-hop teens
who eat beans
and who try not to be seen
were just passing by

The cheeky guys
who eat fries
and those who wear blue ties
were just passing by

The girly girls
who wear pearls
and have their hair in pretty curls
were just passing

The busy stores
with automatic doors
and workers busy with their chores
were just passing by

There's A Town For Everyone

Here is Hafeez's poem about the fun fair

There 's a fun fair for everyone

Now the cheeky types
and the freaky types
and the science loving geeky types
were just passing by

and the little guys
with happy eyes
and who came to the fair to have a surprise
were just passing by

the money spending guys
with the game lending guys
and the funny guys who dress up in bow ties
were just passing by

the lying teens
who aren't very keen
who are very mean
they aren't very clean
were just passing by

Here is a poem by Janieka and Kimran about the park

Theres a park for everyone.

Now the happy types
and the clappy types
and those who wear a nappy
were just passing by.

And the cheeky guys
with shifty eyes
and always pushing people off the slides
were just passing by.

And the grannies who are old
and men who are bold
and people who are shivering with cold
were just passing by.

And children who are tall
some children who are small
and some children with no shoes at all
were just passing by.

And the baby in a pram
being pushed by mam
who was eating some bread and jam
were passing by.

And the happy types
and the tatty types
and the one who loves their catty types
were just passing by.

The mad guys
the sad guys
the glad guys
and the bad guys
and people in the park with their dad guys
were just passing by.

There's a park for everyone

Similes and Metaphors

This week in Literacy we have been looking at poetry, paying particular attention to how poets use metaphors and similes to enhance their work. Use the Wallwisher page to post some of your own ideas based on the African photographs. http://www.wallwisher.com/wall/poetry56b
